COVID-19 Safety Measures
March 11, 2020
There has been a growing concern and caution over the recent outbreak of the coronavirus or better known now as COVID-19. Malaysia is one of the countries that has seen people who have been infected by it and currently our Ministry of Health has been looking into this seriously.
One of the important things is to be informed of the situation and not to be led on by rumours online. Please remember that there are official authorities who are leading efforts and providing the latest updates on the disease.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhoea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell.
How does infection happen?
COVID-19 can be contracted with people carrying the disease through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs, sneezes or exhales.
Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching objects or surfaces that have been in contact with victims infected by COVID-19. Therefore, touching your eyes, nose or mouth increases your risk to infection. People can also catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from a person with COVID-19 who coughs out or exhales droplets. It is recommended to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from anyone who is sick. Those who are sick should stay home and avoid being in public as well.
