Mozzarella Onion Rings
If you have a health conscious dad, you know that every once in awhile, he needs cheat days. And what better day than today to reward him, right? Here’s a cheesy recipe he’ll love:
– 2 large white onions
– 3–4 slices mozzarella cheese
– 2 cups flour
– 5 eggs
– 2 cups bread crumbs
– Marinara sauce
Peel and cut onions into 1cm rings, then separate them. Slice the mozzarella into 4 equal strips. Place smaller onion rings in the centre of a larger one while filling the gaps with the mozzarella. Repeat these steps for all remaining rings. Once done, freeze them for an hour.
Separate the flour, eggs and bread crumbs into 3 different bowls. For the next step, just remember, flour, eggs, crumbs, eggs, then crumbs again. Do this for every ring. Lastly, fry the rings over high heat until golden brown. Serve them with marinara sauce for extra flavour!
Root Beer BBQ Steak
Now for the more classy dads who consider themselves food connoisseurs, here’s an elegant yet relatively easy dish that’ll pass his critiques. The first thing to prepare is the sauce. For that, you’ll need:
– 1 cup of your favorite bottled barbecue sauce
– 1 cup root beer
– 1 teaspoon minced garlic
– 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
– 2 teaspoons soy sauce
Mix all the ingredients in a pot over medium heat. Bring the sauce to a boil and reduce to medium-low heat. Let it simmer for around 20 minutes or so. Once you’re finished with the sauce, it’s time for the steak.
Take the cut of meat of your choosing and marinate it with salt and pepper. Make sure to fully coat the meat and rub the seasoning in. Put some olive oil in the pan followed by your steak. Cook the steak for about a minute on each side until slightly brown then add some butter into the pan.
Now, take a brush, dip it into your sauce, and lightly brush your steak with it. Flip your steak over and repeat the process. Let it cook for about 2-3 minutes. Take your steak out and let it rest. Voila! You’ve got a gourmet dinner for the family.
