Refreshing Water Remedies To Stay Healthy

It’s no secret that up to 60% of your body is made of water, so it makes a lot of sense to always stay hydrated! However, did you know that by infusing your water with a few simple ingredients, you can stay hydrated and boost your health at the same time? Here are a few simple recipes to try out at home.

Cinnamon Coolers

Yes it’s great in cinnamon rolls, but cinnamon also makes for a great infusion! Made from the inner bark of cinnamon trees, cinnamon tastes sweet and earthy, adding a nice spice flavour when used. It also makes for an unusually refreshing drink that’s full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory enzymes.

 

What you’ll need:

Cinnamon sticks

Water

 

How to make it:

There are two ways you can go about making cinnamon water. The first method involves getting a pitcher of water and dropping a stick of cinnamon in to soak overnight. The cinnamon will infuse the water with its flavour and be ready for drinking in the morning. If you prefer a little more colour to your cinnamon water, try simmering your cinnamon in a pot of water for 15 minutes. If you’re simmering more than 1 cup of water, add a cinnamon stick for every extra cup of water. Once you’re done, use the now infused water as a concentrate, adding cold (or hot) water to top it up.

 

Fennel Tea

Fennel features heavily in Indian cuisine and is known for its subtle sweet taste, but did you know it’s also really good for your digestion? What’s more, it can help take the edge off your appetite, so it’s a good idea to have a little fennel tea before you sit down to your next big meal.

 

What you’ll need:

1 litre of water

2 tablespoons of fennel seeds

 

How to make it:

Start off by bringing the water to boil on the stove in a large pot. Once it starts bubbling, toss in your fennel seeds and turn off the heat. Cover the pot with a lid and leave it to cool back down to room temperature. Once it’s cooled, it’s ready for drinking. If you want to make a bigger batch of fennel tea, just double the recipe.

 

Cucumber Water

Rich in vitamin B, which helps keep skin looking healthy, cucumbers are also packed with potassium. Talk about a superfood! Cucumber water is a great way to stay hydrated and healthy, since it’s refreshing enough to be sipped all day.

 

What you’ll need:

One fresh cucumber

Water

 

How to make it:

Begin by cleaning your cucumbers then slice them up into medium sized pieces. You can leave the skin on if you like, or peel it beforehand. Throw the cucumber slices into a container, then cover them with water. Add some ice to keep the slices submerged, then allow them to soak overnight in the fridge. Once infused, just pour the mixture into your water bottle and keep it handy throughout the day.

 

Ginger Water

This list wouldn’t be complete without ginger water! Tried and true, ginger water helps with pain, inflammation, nausea, vomiting and may even lower cholesterol levels.

 

What you’ll need:

A clove of ginger

4 cups of water

 

How to make it:

Grate about 2 teaspoons of the ginger, then bring the water to boil in a pot. Once the water’s bubbling, add your grated garlic and remove the pot from the heat. Cover the pot and allow the ginger to steep for 10 minutes. Pour the infused water out into a container, taking care to strain out the pieces of ginger.  You can start sipping once the drink is cool enough to drink, or you can refrigerate it if you prefer your ginger water cold. Because of its pungent taste, you might want to consider adding a little honey or lemon for flavour and an extra boost of nutrients.
